I was placed at West Side Elementary, which is a technology-based school. My classroom had a SmartBoard, document camera, projector, and desktop computers, televisions and laptops. The document camera was used everyday and many times during the day. The teacher and I utilized the document camera for morning work, whole group and small group instruction. I also used the SmartBoard for my module lessons and my content lesson plans. The teacher had never utilized the SmartBoard before I came because she didn’t have the time to set up the software. The students were excited to use the SmartBoard during the lesson. The Projector was used just as much as the document camera and the SmartBoard because it was on a cart to use with both. The students used the classroom laptops to reinforce their learning and this was a great thing to have for students who could not write well. Other technology I saw throughout the school included many computers in the computer lab. The students started a new math program using ixl.com. The school also had televisions in every classroom the students were only allowed to watch new channels for educational purposes and alerts. All technology in the schools were used daily from what I observed. I was excited to be in a school where technology was such an important part of the students learning.
